BROOKINGS – Sixty-three vehicles were towed during the parking ban Wednesday night, according to the Brookings Police.

Assistant Chief Derrick Powers did not have the exact numbers but said “a few more than that” were just ticketed.

Brookings County saw between 5.5 to 8 inches earlier this week, according to Laura Edwards, Extension state climatologist with SDSU Extension. The Brookings area received up to 7.5 inches after snow started falling Tuesday evening through Wednesday, according to Community, Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network (CoCoRaHS).

After the last parking ban, which was issued due to a blizzard Feb. 7, a total of 144 snow ban citations were issued and 131 vehicles were towed, and six accidents were reported, according to the Brookings Police.

The city of Brookings issued a parking ban earlier this week, beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

“All motor vehicles, implements and trailers must be removed from all streets, alleys and avenues until such streets have been cleaned of snow from curb to curb. Violators will be subject to ticketing and towing,” according to the City of Brookings website.

Three towing services were operating in different parts of the city during the ban.

• North of the railroad tracks and west of Medary Avenue, call Dakota Service at 692-7545; and

• Anywhere south of the railroad tracks, call Bozied’s at 692-2121.
