ARLINGTON – A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after an accident Monday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Chance A. Strohm, 21, of Arlington, was arrested on suspicion of first-offense DUI, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said. Strohm’s 1992 Chevy CK 109 pickup was deemed a total loss.

The accident was reported at 8:38 p.m. Monday. Strohm had allegedly been “drinking alcoholic beverages” at 20716 456th Ave., northeast of Arlington, Sebring said.

“At some point, Chance went outside and got into the 1992 Chevy pickup that was at the residence and started the vehicle. He then proceeded to drive the pickup through a fence, a small shed and then collided with a tree,” Sebring said.

Strohm was transported to the Brookings hospital emergency room by the Arlington Ambulance with unknown injuries, he added.

Also responding were Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol.

“Alcohol was a factor in the accident and Chance will be facing charges of DUI-first,” Sebring said.

The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
