BROOKINGS – Seven teens are suspected of setting a bridge on fire Friday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident was reported at 6:20 p.m. Friday and occurred at a bridge owned by Brookings County on 472nd Avenue near 218th Street in rural Brookings, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
“Upon arrival, the deputy found a moderate amount of smoke rising from the middle of the bridge. Some fabric was found on the fire,” Sebring said.
“Seven suspects ages 15 to 19 have been identified and charges are pending,” he said.
The Brookings Fire Department extinguished the fire. The amount of damage is unknown at this time, but the bridge is drivable, Sebring said.
