West Lyon Quad

WEST LYON, Iowa – The Fliers went 0-3 at the West Lyon Quadrangular on Tuesday night.

 - Parker 45, Flandreau 21

The Pheasants used five wins by fall and a pair of forfeits to power past the Fliers on Tuesday night.

After Parker’s Grant Plucker won by fall in 58 seconds over Austin Kulm at 138 pounds, Michael Witte’s 5-0 decision at 145 over Travis Leber got Flandreau on the scoreboard.

But three straight wins – two by fall – and a forfeit gave the Pheasants what proved to be an insurmountable lead as the Fliers won just three more matches.

Chase Reed picked up his first varsity win by fall (1:15) over Geoff Dunkelberger at 220; Hunter Witte pinned Tanner Preheim in 2:51 at 106; and then, at 113, Caleb Dietrich won by forfeit to account for Flandreau’s team points.

Keith won a 5-3 decision over Zach Hamman, and then, Dietrich posted a 16-0 tech fall over Jose Richarz in 5:18 at 113.

“While the team results were not what we wanted, giving up at least 30 points in forfeits each match, we actually wrestled pretty well overall Tuesday night,” said coach Travis Ahrens.

“It was exciting to see some of our young guys go out and battle, picking up their first varsity wins. We took another incremental step towards improvement last night and that is great to see as coaches. Michael Witte and Preston Keith led our team, going 3-0 and 2-1 on the night respectively.”
