BROOKINGS – State University Theatre and Dance continues its spring 2021 season with performances of “[title of show] (clean version)” at 7:30 p.m. April 15-17 and at 2 p.m. April 18 in the Oscar Larson Theatre of the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.
“[title of show] (clean version)” tells the story of struggling writers Hunter and Jeff as they race against a deadline to enter an original musical into a theater festival. The show depicts their journey as artists and friends as they write a musical about writing a musical. Music and lyrics are by Jeff Bowen and the book is by Hunter Bell. The original off-Broadway production won several Obie Awards and the production ultimately played on Broadway.
SDSU professor J.D. Ackman is directing two casts that will alternate performances in order to observe proper COVID-19 safety guidelines and provide more students with the opportunity to perform.
The cast performing April 15 and April 17 includes Morea Nichols (Sioux Falls), Makayla Overholt (Chester), Isaiah Dietz (Brandon) and Brady Wright (Rock Rapids, Iowa). The cast performing April 16 and April 18 include student actors Elizabeth Anne Stucker (Spirit Lake, Iowa), Abby Turner (Miller), Bradley Herrmann (Sioux Falls) and Noah Kutter (Sioux Falls). Hope Osborn (Milbank) serves as onstage accompanist for both casts.
The April 16 and 17 performances will be available for livestream viewing. Tickets can be ordered online at the SUT ticketing website, https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/sdstate/479. Patrons may purchase tickets for either the in-person performance or the streamed performances. Tickets will not be available on-site before each performance or at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center box office. In addition, there will be no will call areas. Patrons should use the print-at-home option or save their tickets to a mobile device.
Social distancing, SDSU COVID-19 protocols and other public safety considerations will be in place at all performances. The performers and all front-of-house personnel will wear face coverings and patrons are required to do so.
