Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Memorial visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of services.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Steven Carter Omodt was born in Brookings, on Dec. 28, 1961, to Gary and Carol (Mertens) Omodt.  He attended Brookings High School and graduated in 1980.  Steve worked at The Country Kitchen and then became a farmer in 1984.

He loved farming so much and worked on this farm until 2015.  Steve was such a hard worker and enjoyed cooking so much that in the off-season from farming, he would often take jobs at area restaurants as a cook until it was planting season again.

On March 13, 2010, Steve married Gale Koepplin of Lehr, N.D.  Steve loved spending time with Gale, going on tropical vacations, cooking together, four-wheeling, taking trips to visit family, spending time with Gale’s family, and playing with their two dogs, Chessa and Brudis, and with their cat, Thelma-The-Catdog.  He also relished outdoor grilling, gardening, singing karaoke, and heading up to Vacationaire in Park Rapids, Minn.  Steve had a passion for anything motorized and over the years had fun owning and using his various motorized “toys” – his four-wheeler, truck, motorcycle, jet skis, and of course, his tractors.

Steve  is surivived by  his wife, Gale Koepplin; his brothers, Greg Omodt, of Brookings, and Jeff (Vickie Bushman) Omodt of Mankato, Minn.; three sisters, Stacy (Darrell) Thomas of Sioux Falls,  Karen (Barry) McMahon, of Owatonna, Minn., and Kelly (Eric) Huls of Sioux Falls; his 12 nephews and nieces; a great- nephew; a great-niece; his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and all of his friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gary and Carol Omodt, cousin Owen Mertens, and Aunt Marilyn Mertens.
