Street paving starts today

BROOKINGS – Construction is starting today on the City of Brookings asphalt paving project.

The contractor for the project is Bowes Construction, Inc., and the project will include milling the top layer of asphalt and paving an asphalt overlay. The contractor anticipates the milling operation will start today (July 19) on the following streets:

• Eighth Street South between Medary Avenue South and 22nd Avenue South

• Elm Avenue between Fifth Street South and Eighth Street South

• Seventh Street South between Elm Avenue and Heritage Drive

• 12th Street South between 17th Avenue South and 22nd Avenue South

The work may take approximately two weeks, and the anticipated schedule may be adjusted depending on weather.

“The public may experiencetraffic delays during the con- struction. We would also like to remind the public to be cautious when driving or walking through the project area,” says a press release from the City of Brookings.

The City is asking that vehicles do not park on these streets during the milling and paving work. Vehicles that are parked on the street during the milling and paving construction will be subject to towing at the vehicle owner’s expense.

“The City appreciates everyone’s patience during the project,” the press release said.
