BROOKINGS – The Brookings Street Department will be sealing streets with oil and rock starting today, July 28, weather permitting, the City of Brookings announced Tuesday.
Streets and avenues to be sealed will include the areas north of Sixth Street from Fifth Avenue to 14th Avenue, Seventh Street from Medary to Jackrabbit Avenues, University Boulevard, north of Sixth Street to the bypass from 22nd Avenue to 25th Avenue, Sunrise Ridge Road, Minnesota Drive, Eastbrook Drive, Insbrook Lane, 32nd Avenue from Sixth Street north, Capital Street, Century Circle, and 34th Avenue from Sixth Street to the Brookings Regional Landfill.
Residents who live in areas scheduled for seal coating should not park anything (vehicles, trailers, boats, RVs, implements, etc.) on their street from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., until their street has been covered with rock. Vehicles will be towed at owners’ expense.
Also, the City is asking that residents do not water lawns or drain sump pumps onto the streets during seal coating. Streets need to be dry in order for the seal coat to adhere.
“Motorists are encouraged to drive slowly and be cautious of equipment, trucks and employees. Bicyclists and motorcyclists should exercise extreme caution when using these streets. Residents are encouraged to utilize alternate routes during this time in order to avoid delays,” a press release from the City of Brookings says.
