SIOUX FALLS – Manny Gailosa hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to give the Sturgis Scoopers a 5-4 lead and they hung on to defeat the Brookings Bobcats by that margin Sunday afternoon at Ronken Field.
Sturgis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brookings came back with three runs in the bottom of inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Bobcats scored runs on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk.
The Scoopers tied the game at three in the top of the third inning when Ryan Garland hit an RBI single. Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning. Sturgis scored on and wild pitch and Brookings scored on an RBI double from Daniel Messerli.
Tyler Kreutner pitched a complete game for the Bobcats, giving up 10 hits and three earned runs. He had seven strikeouts.
Gage Murphy got the start for the Scoopers. He pitched three innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs. Carl Nash came into the game in the fourth inning and pitched four shutout innings, striking out three batters.
Brookings (9-8) closes out the regular season playing host to Huron in a doubleheader Tuesday at 5 p.m.
