BROOKINGS – Dale Tidemann, left, plant manager of 3M Brookings, presents a check for $50,000 to SDSU President Barry Dunn in support of 3M’s commitment to helping underserved students succeed in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The check, presented Wednesday, is for the Wokini Initiative at South Dakota State University, which is a collaborative and holistic framework to support American Indian student success and Indigenous Nation-building. Wokini, which means “a new beginning” in Lakota, started when Dunn took office in 2016.
The funds will be used toward SDSU’s commitment of offering five-year, $5,000 renewable scholarships to qualifying American Indian students.
