SUT brings new ‘Six Characters’ to stage

BROOKINGS – State University Theatre presents “Six Characters in Search of an Author” by Luigi Pirandello this week.

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, April 19-22, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Doner Auditorium. The show will run for approximately 90 minutes.

In this new adaptation by W. James Wood, Pirandello’s classic receives a modern twist.

While making a documentary about the process of producing a play, six characters interrupt a rehearsal as they seek an author to tell their story and to present their real lives on stage.

But do their realities make better tales than fiction? Theatrical conventions are challenged, as is reality itself in this exploration of art versus reality.

The cast includes: Brittney McClendon (Pell City, Ala.), Josh Reitsma (Sioux Falls), Logan Haak (Yankton), Morgan Oliver (Dakota Dunes), Taylor Walker (Sioux Falls), Cody Schwartz (Sanborn, Minn.), Mary Hendricks (Sioux Falls), Jacob Hegland, (Brandon Valley), Miles Savedra (Rochester, Minn.), Steven Marienau (Hawarden, Iowa), Allie Kantack (Brookings), Alex Garcia (Sioux Falls), Jamie Mundwiler (Milbank), Luke Bielfeldt (Brookings), Anya Clites (Brookings) and Prianka Azad (Dhaka, Bangladesh).
