415 new COVID-19 cases, four new deaths reported in South Dakota

BROOKINGS – The state on Monday reported 415 new COVID-19 cases and four new deaths in South Dakota. 

Ten of the new cases have been reported in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases have risen to 5,282 total cases (five new confirmed and five new probable): 5,119 of those people have recovered (six new) with 124 active cases (up by four) and 39 deaths (no change). A total of 161 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point (no change), the state reported. 

The Brookings hospital has three COVID-19 occupied hospital beds, according to the South Dakota Department of Health website. The county is in the “high” community spread category. 

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 162,790 (331 new confirmed and 84 new probable) as of midday Monday, according to the SDDOH. 

Of the statewide cases, 6,865 are classified as active (up by 45 from Friday). As of Monday, 153,616 people have recovered (366 new), 8,271 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point (19 new), 230 people are currently hospitalized (down by four) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,309 people with COVID have died (four new).

The new deaths, two women and two men, are being reported in Codington, Hughes, Minnehaha and Pennington counties. The age ranges of the deceased are one 60-69 years and three 80 years or older.

The SDDOH website reported midday Monday that 970,314 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 469,336 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System. 

In Brookings County, 38,069 vaccine doses have been administered to 18,555 people, the SDDOH website reports.

The SDDOH reports 70.5% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, 59.1% have completed their vaccination series, and 14.8% have received a booster dose.
