Thanksgiving

“…let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise …And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

(Hebrews 13:15)

Giving thanks is a deeply spiritual action. It is the admission that all of life is a gift from God. Our ability to live life depends on weather, fruitful crops, the ability to work, and a healthy mind – none of which we can control through our own effort. We live life dependent on the grace of God. In fact, the ability to open our eyes in the morning is a gift from God!

Someone who truly understands Thanksgiving is therefore willing to show the same generous heart to others. For this reason, Thanksgiving is a time to share food, to share friendship and to share kindness. This is the true meaning of Thanksgiving. When you refuse to give hospitality, when you condemn someone else to struggle in life, when you try to hang onto your wealth at all costs – you have not understood the spirit of Thanksgiving.

Let us use this Thanksgiving as an opportunity to live with a grateful heart, and to show the grace of God as we generously share life with those who have less.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
