Midwest Maidens

The January Third Sunday Breakfast sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary No. 2118 was held on Jan. 19. The nonprofit organization that received the profits from the breakfast this month was the Midwest Maidens Roller Derby Team.

Members of the team helped serve the breakfast to the members of the community. While serving the breakfast the members had a chance to talk about their organization and ways they interact with the community.

The Midwest Maidens team received a check for $575.

Third Sunday proceeds go to Harvest Table

The next Third Sunday Breakfast sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary No. 2118 will be on Feb. 16.

The breakfast is held as a way of showing support for the nonprofit organizations in the area. Any nonprofit organization is encouraged to apply for one of the eight upcoming months for the 2020-2021 year.

For more information, contact Jan Olson, Third Sunday Breakfast chairperson, at 1924 Ninth Ave. S., No. 108, Brookings or jano@mchsi.com.

The nonprofit organization being sponsored is the Harvest Table, an organization that provides a weekly hot meal for area citizens. The Harvest Table is a longstanding organization that has fulfilled a need in the community. Local service groups and area clubs offer their time and members to prepare and serve the meal.

The meal is available every Monday at the Methodist Community Life Center on Sixth Street.

The Feb. breakfast will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Post Home No. 2118. The post is located at 520 Main Ave. Breakfast will have pancakes or biscuits and gravy as the entrees.

Served with each entree are scrambled eggs, sausages, toast, juice and coffee. For a single entree the cost is $7, and both entrees cost $9.   Tickets for children from 3-7 are $4. Toddlers younger than 3 eat for free.
