Third Sunday Breakfast returns

Posted

BROOKINGS – The Third Sunday Breakfast is back. The nonprofit organization to kick off this year’s breakfast season is Girl Scout Troop No. 50250 of Brookings.

This troop of girls will be on hand to help serve breakfast and visit with anyone who may be interested in their Girl Scout program. These girls are all seniors and are willing to discuss their activities with younger girls and their parents.

The VFW No. 2118 Auxiliary will prepare pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausages, scrambled eggs along with toast, juice and coffee. The VFW Auxiliary officials say they are proud to continue this event to benefit local nonprofit organization.

Community nonprofit organizations are encouraged to contact the VFW auxiliary for information on how to become eligible for consideration as a recipient for one of the eight months that the breakfast is served.

The breakfast prices remain the same as last year. Sausages, scrambled eggs, toast, juice and coffee come with any meal you choose. The decision of whether you want pancakes or biscuits and gravy is all you need to make. This meal will cost $7. If you have a hearty appetite, you can order both pancakes and biscuits and gravy with the sides offered for $9. Children 3-7 eat for $4, and children 2 and younger eat for free.

The breakfast will be served at the VFW Post Home at 520 Main Ave. for the first Third Sunday Breakfast on Aug. 19. Serving is from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Nonprofit organizations interested in information and consideration for the 2019-2020 year of breakfasts should contact Jan Olson, 695-0377, or email her at jano@mchsi.com. Only eight organizations are chosen per year.
