Thorngren: Vote for Books

Letter to the editor

Some of the most important votes we cast are those for our local leadership, and I believe that the most significant local positions are those on the Brookings School Board. We trust our school board members to help set the direction for our district and to ultimately oversee and provide guidance in the education of our most precious resource – children – the next generation of community leaders. If we get education "right" we get everything else "right."

I am excited to support Keli Books in her candidacy for the Brookings School Board. I believe that she will “get it right.”’ Having worked with Keli for the past five years, I know firsthand her dedication and commitment to learning environments that support the needs of every learner. Keli is passionate about the education of all children.

As a teacher, Keli sought to instill in each of her students a love of learning (for math and beyond!) and a belief in their ability to learn. As a volunteer, Keli works tirelessly to support East Central CASA and its mission of advocating for children in the most difficult of circumstances – navigating the court system.

As a development director for the SDSU Foundation, Keli is “all in” on fundraising and advocating for the programs and mission of the College of Education and Human Sciences. She has tirelessly devoted her time and enthusiasm to helping bring in record numbers of gifts and pledges to support education and related activities in her five years with the foundation. This speaks to Keli’s passion, hard work, and belief in the importance of high-quality learning experiences.

Keli is adept at developing relationships, listening and learning, and cultivating resources for students and teachers. As a school board member, Keli will be thoughtful and proactive in seeking input and providing a voice for all constituents. She is a mom, an educator, and an advocate for all learners. Please join me in supporting Keli Books for school board.
