SIOUX FALLS – The Jackrabbit women's soccer team saw Leah Manuleleua, Rachel Preston and Kaitlin Zabel named to the 2019 Summit League All-Academic Team, announced Tuesday.
Manuleleua, a senior from Manteca, California, is a repeat selection from last year's team and a three-time All-Summit League performer. She was named the 2019 Summit League Offensive Player of the Year with a league-leading 26 points and 11 goals, boasting a 3.78 GPA as a nursing major.
Preston adds another academic honor to her tally after being named to CoSIDA's Academic All-Region First Team last month. The sophomore defender, holds a 4.00 GPA in nursing and played all but 38 available minutes for South Dakota State's defense this year. The Lakeville, Minnesota, native was a key member of the defensive unit that allowed only six goals in 2019.
Zabel joined Preston on a back line that held opponents to a 0.40 goals against average this season, as the Lakeville, Minnesota defender logged over 1,900 minutes on the field with 21 starts. A junior psychology major, Zabel holds a 3.88 GPA and was an All-Summit League First Team pick in 2019.
South Dakota State now has 12 selections all-time to the Summit League's All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The all-academic league team is made up of the 11 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
The team is voted on by the institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
