BROOKINGS – Well over a hundred vehicles were ticketed and towed after a parking ban was issued as a blizzard held the area captive Thursday, according to the Brookings Police.
A total of 144 snow ban citations were issued and 131 vehicles were towed, and six non-injury accidents were reported in Brookings Thursday, Lt. Marci Gebers said.
The ban took effect at 9 p.m. Thursday.
“All motor vehicles, implements, and trailers must be removed from all streets, alleys, and avenues until such streets have been cleaned of snow from curb to curb. Violators will be subject to ticketing and towing,” according to the City of Brookings website.
Three towing services were operating in different parts of the city during the ban:
• West of Seventh Avenue/Seventh Avenue South (including downtown) were towed by Aurora Auto Body, 693-3228;
• Between Seventh Avenue/Seventh Avene South and 17th Avenue/17th Avenue South were towed by Bozied’s, 692-2121; and
• 17th Avenue/17th Avenue South to the east edge of city were towed by Dakota Service, 692-7545.
