Tigers hold off Cossacks 64-62

VOLGA – Howard handed Sioux Valley its first loss of the season during Big East Conference girls’ basketball action Thursday night, holding on for a 64-62 win in the Cossack Center.

The Tigers (3-2, 1-2) were up 13-10 after a quarter and 32-23 at halftime. The score stood at 53-43 entering the fourth.

Howard’s Hilary Albrecht finished with 20 points, six assists and four steals.

Citori Rentz added 15 points and Kenedy Koepsell 11. Josie Erickson chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds.

For the Cossacks, Carly Granum went 6-of-11 on 3-pointers and ended up with 26 points.

Lynsey Stevens flirted with a triple double, totaling 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. She and Granum both came up with a pair of steals.

Sioux Valley (5-1, 3-1) takes on Estelline to close out the Swiftel Center Classic tonight at 7:30 in Brookings.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

 West Central 46, Colman-Egan 43

HARTFORD – West Central outscored Colman-Egan 11-8 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 46-43 nonconference boys’ basketball victory Thursday night.

The Trojans (3-3) led 10-5 after a quarter but trailed 21-18 at halftime. The score was tied at 35-all through three.

Jackson Miller had 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Brandon McKnight added 15 points, five boards and three dimes.

The Hawks’ Kade Groos (14) and Bodee Groos (11) combined for 25 points.

Dalton Voelker grabbed eight rebounds, Bodee Groos seven and Chandler Gullickson five. Keith Crisp dished out five assists and Kade Groos came up with a pair of steals.

Colman-Egan (2-2) faces Hamlin in the Entringer Classic on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brookings High School.
