Tom Anderson , 69, died Monday, August 28, 2017.
Memorial services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at Ascension Lutheran Church. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Tom was born on July 20, 1948, to parents Verner and Doris Anderson. He lived and worked in the Brookings area most of his life and enjoyed his home on Lake Poinsett where you would find him boating and entertaining friends and family on a regular basis.
Tom owned and operated The Optical Shop in Brookings until he retired. He was active in the regional and national optometric associations.
He was an excellent optician known for his ability to fit anyone with glasses, or in some cases repair the irreparable.
Tom was a kind-hearted man who loved his family and was always there to celebrate holidays and special occasions with them.
His love of life and the need to nap totally fit his quirky personality. Tom always saw the best in people and was a loyal and generous friend.
Tom is survived by his sister and her husband Deb and Charlie Welf; his brother and wife Russ and Teresa Anderson. Tom had a special connection to and is survived by his niece and her husband Gina and Chad Schlawin, his nephew and wife Joel and Brandi Utecht along with nephews Marshall Utecht and Michael Welf.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Doris and Verner Anderson.
