Toscano tied for 7th after 1st round

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb.—After the opening round of the 2018 Summit League Championship Sunday, the South Dakota State women’s golf team is fifth. 

The Jackrabbits shot a 310 on the par-72, 6,142-yard ArborLinks Golf Course. North Dakota State leads the eight-team field, shooting a three-over par 291.

Teresa Toscano is tied for seventh after firing a two-over par 74. She is three strokes behind Denver’s Sophie Newlove, who leads the 40-player field.

Magda Kruger is tied for 12th, shooting a five-over par 77 and Sydney Bormann is tied for 16th (78).

Natcha Srimaneerungroj is tied for 27th (81) and Cassidy Laidlaw is tied for 38th (88).

Toscano, Bormann, Laidlaw earn postseason honors

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb.—For the second consecutive season, the South Dakota State women’s golf team had three Jackrabbits honored on All-Summit League teams Saturday.

Teresa Toscano was named to the first team and Sydney Bormann and Cassidy Laidlaw were second-team honorees.

League officials announced various awards prior to Sunday’s start of the 2018 Summit League Women’s Golf Championships at the ArborLinks Golf Course.

Toscano, who earned second-team honors in 2017, leads the Jackrabbits and ranks second in The Summit League with a personal-best 73.68 stroke average. The sophomore enters the league championship with a pair of top-five and three top-10 finishes and seven rounds at par or below.

Bormann and Laidlaw earn their first Summit League postseason honors. Bormann ranks third on the team with a 75.96 stroke average. The sophomore won the Lady Thunderbird Invitational and had a top-five finish at the UNO Invitational.

Laidlaw, a contender for Summit League Newcomer of the Year, ranks second on the team and is the top rookie in The Summit League with a 75.75 stroke average.

The Summit League champion receives an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Regionals May 7-9 in California, Texas, Wisconsin and Florida.
