BROOKINGS – Yes, Brookings IS tough enough. The 2018 Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign raised $4,003 to donate directly to the Brookings Health System Foundation to continue services that support local cancer patients.

“Being part of this campaign has been a truly rewarding experience, and knowing that the funds stay local is icing on the cake,” said Molly Nagelhout, Swiftel Center ticket office manager. “Our team is dedicated to making this a successful campaign for years to come.”

More than $58,100 has been raised to date through the annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. The Swiftel Center works with the Brookings Health System Foundation to effectively distribute funds.

“The Brookings Health System Foundation greatly appreciates the continued support of the Swiftel Center and the Brookings community through the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign,” said Sara Schneider, Brookings Health System Foundation director.

“These funds help Brookings Health System bring new services to the community. This November we announced we are now hosting a mobile PET/CT unit bi-monthly at our facility. PET/CT diagnostic imaging helps physicians diagnose and treat cancer patients. By hosting the mobile unit on our campus, we’re helping local patients avoid travel expenses and time away from home.”

Thanks to community support, the campaign has assisted many cancer patients in Brookings County with 100 percent of proceeds staying local.

Funds raised by the 2018 Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign will be used locally to promote local cancer screening benefits, such as regular mammograms. Funds will also help provide information about the importance of breast self-examination and promote resources that are available for patients in the community and at Brookings Health System.
