Troy Larkin - Arlington

April 22, 1962 - Nov. 15, 2022

Troy Robert Larkin was born on April 22, 1962, in Brookings, SD, the son of Robert (Bob) and Janice (Larson) Larkin.
After a brave battle with ALS Troy passed away at the Avantara Nursing Home in Arlington, SD on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at the age of 60.  No services are being planned at the present time.  A gathering for friends and family will be held as a celebration of Troy’s life sometime in Spring 2023.
Troy received his education in Brookings, SD and was a graduate of Brookings High School in 1980.  Shortly after graduating from high school, Troy enlisted in the US Navy spending much of his time in service for our country on the USS Kitty Hawk.  One of his greatest treasures was his US Navy jacket which he wore humbly and with great honor.
Troy held many jobs during his lifetime, but to his family he was a talented carpenter.  There was no job too big or too small.  Troy gave them all his special touch and he had a great eye for beauty and detail. The best years of his working career came when he worked with his father Bob in Larkin Construction, the family business.
Troy was an avid reader spending many hours at the public library. Troy read many books on everything from astronomy to theology with curiosity and great intellect.  A talented guitarist and vocalist, music held a special place in his life.  A skilled chessman, Troy was always happy to take up a game, especially one that posed a challenge.
Troy had a passion for the culinary arts as well and loved to watch cooking videos online, oftentimes sending them to his sisters as a not-so-subtle hint of a new dish he’d like prepared for him.
Troy had a passion for art and he crafted many incredible paintings, portraits and drawings over his lifetime. His artistic talents were beyond measure and the family cherishes the many beautiful treasures he created.
Troy is survived by his sisters Teresa Larkin of Alexandria, VA, Tammy Colvin of Arlington, SD, Trudi (Jeff) Hartman of Brookings, SD, Tonya (Chuck) Dougherty of Brookings, SD; 16 nieces and nephews (Ben Hein, Suzyn Daniel, Elizabeth Hein, Sara Christensen, Maggie Christensen, Kayla Wallace, Ryan Kirsch, Jeremy Kambel, Jill Quam, Zachary Kambel, Dayna Kambel, Sierra Hartman, Jeffrey Hartman Jr., Katie Hartman, Josh Bauman, Danielle Bohn); and many great nieces and nephews.  Troy was preceded in death by his father Bob who passed away on August 2, 2008, his mother Janice who passed away on January 29, 1998, and his step-nephews Josef Hein who passed away on April 25, 2000 and Adam Hartman who passed away on December 15, 2018.
