Brookings County nonprofits rely year-round on gifts from donors small and large. The South Dakota Day of Giving serves to highlight the vital community impact of these cultural and social service organizations and gives participating nonprofits the opportunity to win prize money from the South Dakota Gives Prize Pool. Brookings nonprofits have won prizes during previous years for social posts made during Giving Tuesday, including the Brookings Youth Mentoring Program, Boys & Girls Club of Brookings, Brookings Backpack Project, Brookings Regional Humane Society, and the South Dakota Art Museum. This year the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is the first to have earned a South Dakota Gives prize based on sharing a post about the importance of their “Feed the Pig” visitor donation bucket.

Participating organizations welcome area residents to stop in Tuesday, online or in person. For example, the South Dakota Humanities Council is hosting an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its office located at 1215 Trail Ridge Road, Suite A. Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity, 321 Ninth St. will serve coffee and donuts Tuesday morning. Blue Tide Car Wash has agreed to match Giving Tuesday gifts to Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity up to $2,500. The Brookings Area United Way will have an online auction opening on Thanksgiving and closing on Day of Giving. Residents can find the link for the auction site at BrookingsUnitedWay.org. Check in with organizations you wish to support and follow their social media for details about their Giving Tuesday focus.

The Brookings Council of Nonprofits expressed gratitude to all who contribute with time, talent and treasure on Giving Tuesday and throughout the year.
