BROOKINGS – Senior forward Tori Hatcher had a hand in two goals as the Jackrabbits scored twice in the second half to pull away to a 3-1 nonconference win over Bellevue University on Sunday at Fishback Soccer Park.

Hatcher’s low cross to Leah Manuleleua led to SDSU’s first goal in the 13th minute of play as the sophomore one-touched the ball into the goal for the early lead.

Bellevue leveled the match  in the 33rd minutes on a goal by Madison Lambert to send the game into the intermission tied at 1-1.

In the second half, a shot by Manuleleua was saved by Bellevue’s Sabrina Staufenbiel, but Hatcher gathered in the rebound, dribbled right and scored to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead just 7 1/2 minutes into the second half.

With less than a minute to play in the match, freshman forward Rachel Hewitt scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Carina McLennan for the final margin.

SDSU held a 24-7 advantage in shots, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal as the Jackrabbit defense, along with the wind, shut down the Bruins in the second half.

Maggie Smither finished with five saves as the Jacks improved to 5-4-3 on the season and the Bruins dropped to 7-3.

SDSU returns to Summit League play Friday when they play host to Omaha at 6 p.m.
