Two arrested for allegedly firing gun

BROOKINGS – Two men were arrested after allegedly discharging firearms within the city limits last weekend, according to Brookings Police.

The incident was reported at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Lt. Marci Gebers said.

“Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of 32nd Avenue for a report of five individuals firing a gun into the air. Upon arrival, officers located and detained four male individuals,” Gebers said.

“Through the course of the investigation, two male individuals were arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm,” Gebers said.

Arrested were Jesus Lopez, 28, from San Antonio, Texas, and Esteban Montes, 23, from Raymondville, Texas, Gebers said. 

“A .45 caliber handgun was located and collected as evidence. Lopez and Montes were transported to the BCDC. Alcohol was a factor in this incident,” Gebers said.
