BROOKINGS – Two men were arrested last week for allegedly stealing duck decoys from a trailer, and charges are pending against two others, according to Brookings Police.

Lt. Marci Gebers said officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at 2:48 a.m. Nov. 17 in the 1300 block of Third Street.

“Some of the individuals that rent at that location caught some individuals stealing duck decoys. They had been stored in a trailer,” Gebers said. “They were able to scare these people off. They took off running and left behind a pickup that was filled with stolen duck decoys from the trailer.”

Gebers said two people were seen fleeing from the area, and they were located and admitted to being involved in the burglary and another that had already occurred earlier in the evening, from the same trailer.

Arrested were 21-year-old Aric Williams of Brookings and 22-year-old Kelby Hawkins of Groton on suspicion of third-degree burglary and grand theft. Two other men are believed to be involved, and charges are pending.

Police were able to recover some duck decoys and a sled. Total value of the stolen items is about $2,500.
