Two injured in collision west of Volga

BROOKINGS – Two people were injured during a two-vehicle collision west of Volga Sunday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported at 7:55 a.m. Sunday and occurred on U.S. Highway 14 and 457th Avenue, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

Heather Runia, 35, of Brookings, was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500. Eli Hudgens, 27, of White, was driving a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer with John Hudgens, 52, of White, as a passenger.

It was found Heather Runia was operating her vehicle northbound on 457thAvenue and failed to stop for a stop sign. While going through the intersection, Runia’s vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500, was impacted by a vehicle driven by Eli Hudgens. After impacting, the vehicles then went into the north ditch,” Sebring said.

“Heather was treated and released at the scene by Arlington Ambulance, while Eli’s passenger, John Hudgens was transported to the Brookings hospital for unknown injuries,” Sebring said.

Runia’s Ram sustained $10,000 in damage; Hudgens’ Chevy sustained $12,000 in damage, Sebring said.

Also responding were the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Arlington Fire Department, Sebring said.

The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
