Two Prairie Striders run Boston Marathon

Prairie Striders Running Club members Bruce Allen, 54, of Flandreau, and Nancy Scholl, 60, of Brookings, ran in the 121st Boston Marathon on Monday.

Allen, a Boston veteran, started out fast, hitting the halfway mark in 1:50:08 and finished in 4:38:33 for an overall 10:38 pace.

Scholl, running Boston for the second time, finished in 4:05:13 after running the first half in 2:00:20. Her overall pace was 9:22.

Connor Branick, one year removed from the SDSU track/cross country team, finished his Boston debut in 2:56:05 after hitting the halfway point in 1:22:59 for a 6:43 pace.

Branick, 23, of Sioux Falls, finished 994th out of 30,074 finishers. He was 734th out of nearly 12,000 runners in the age 18-39 age division. He finished 938th out of 16,376 male runners.

That means there were 13,698 female runners. Fifty years ago, there was one – Katherine Switzer, who marked the anniversary by running the course again at age 70.
