BROOKINGS — A man was thrown from the lawnmower he was riding after a vehicle struck it Tuesday while he was crossing Main Avenue South at its intersection with Blue Bell Drive.

Daniel Klug, 18, of Brookings was treated at the scene by EMTs for minor injuries, according to a news release from the Brookings Police Department. The accident was reported at approximately 1:45 p.m.

BPD Detective Adam Smith wrote in the release that Klug, who was operating a Hustler riding lawnmower, did not see a 1999 Buick LeSabre, driven by Althea Davis, 61, of Brookings as it traveled southbound on Main Avenue South. Davis swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the lawnmower’s front struck the passenger side of Davis’s vehicle, which caused the lawnmower to spin and throw Klug off the vehicle.

Davis and a 62-year-old male passenger in her vehicle were not injured.
