COLMAN – A Rapid City woman has been identified as the person died Saturday night in a vehicle-pedestrian crash near Colman.
Preliminary crash information indicates a 2011 GMC Yukon was southbound in the driving lane of Interstate 29 when it struck Hevin Mathis, 34, who was walking in the driving lane at about 10 p.m. Saturday. She was pronounced dead at the scene, 10 miles southeast of Colman at mile marker 102, according to a news release from South Dakota Department of Public Safety spokesman Tony Mangan.
Both male occupants of the car, 29-year-old driver Daryl Winters of Lennox and the 1-year-old passenger, were not injured. Both were wearing seat belts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary, Mangan reported.
