ELKTON – Vintage vehicles and other items were destroyed in a garage fire Tuesday in Elkton, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
“The total amount lost in the fire is estimated at $124,000,” Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
The fire was reported at 10:41 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of North Elk Street in Elkton, Sebring said.
“It was believed that the fire started in the electrical box inside of the garage,” Sebring said.
“There were several cars inside of the garage that included a 1967 Dodge Charger, a 1971 Plymouth Duster, 1979 Dodge Colt, YZ250 dirt bike, 1989 Kawasaki 550 motorcycle, various tools, and stereo system,” Sebring said. “Everything that was inside of the garage was a complete loss.
“There was also a Chevy Silverado pickup parked next to the garage that received some $5,000 worth of damage,” Sebring said.
“A utility pole, wire and transformer owned by Ottertail Power Company received some $5,000 worth of damage,” he added.
The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
