SINAI – A woman was injured in a rollover accident after she apparently fell asleep while driving early Sunday morning, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported at 3:20 a.m. Sunday and occurred near 459th Avenue on 216th Street, northeast of Sinai, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

Maricel Abad Olson, 37, of Volga, was traveling westbound on 216th Street near 459th Avenue in a 2005 Chevy Colorado.

“Maricel advised that she was tired and believed that she may have fallen asleep and lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to roll into the north ditch where it went through a fence and came to rest on the passenger side,” Sebring said.

Olson was transported to the Brookings hospital by Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries.

The Chevy Colorado sustained $10,000 worth of damage.

Also responding were the Sinai Fire Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
