Volunteers sought for National Night Out

BROOKINGS – Brookings City Councilor Joey Collins is asking for volunteers – to get a dunking.

He was drumming up support for Brookings National Night Out, which is set from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 3 in Pioneer Park. The event is part of the Brookings Police Department Foundation’s “Back the Blue Week.”

A dunk tank has been donated by Nic Polly and Rude’s Funeral Home, according to a press release from Police Officer Travis Asmus.

Collins has agreed to be a “dunk contestant,” according to the press release. All proceeds from the dunk tank will go to Christmas, Kids and Cops.

“I was asked to ask all of you – everybody in here – if anybody wanted to volunteer for the dunk tank,” Collins said at Tuesday’s meeting of the Brookings City Council. The more people that participate, the less time volunteers have to spend in the tank, he added.

People willing to be dunked can contact Collins, or Asmus at the Brookings Police Department.
