Warriors pound Cossacks, Divers finish regular season with victory

Castlewood, Lake Preston, De Smet, Flandreau and Arlington all picked up wins in area girls' basketball Tuesday night.

 Castlewood 61, Sioux Valley 37

CASTLEWOOD – The Warriors dominated from the start and improved to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the Lake Central Conference. 

Cala Hunter led Castlewood with 20 points. Darah DeKam had 14 points and five rebounds. Alayna Benike had nine points, seven assists and 10 rebounds. Mackenzie Everson and Maddie Horn each had nine points.

Sioux Valley (9-10, 1-5) was led by Julia Schneider who had 14 points. Reagan Johnson had eight points and nine rebounds. Miakken Vincent had seven points and four rebounds.

The Cossacks will close the regular season out Thursday when they host Garretson at 6:30 p.m. The Warriors will play Estelline/Hendricks on Thursday at home.

 Lake Preston 63, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 37

LAKE PRESTON – The Divers closed out the regular season Tuesday night with a win. They finished with a record of 4-16 overall and 2-7 in the Dakota Valley Conference.

Lake Preston jumped out to a 18-9 lead in the first quarter and led 37-18 at halftime. They increased their lead to 21 points by the end of the third quarter and cruised to victory.

The Divers were led by Ashlyn DeKnikker who had a huge night. She finished with 34 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals. Madison Perkins had 10 points and six rebounds. Marissa Rober and Alice Warne each had seven points.

Julia Trygstad led the Raiders (2-17, 0-8) with 13 points. Kylie Anderson had 12 points and Kjloe Tieman had nine.

The Raiders will play Flandreau Indian School on Friday in Rutland.

 De Smet 39, Deubrook Area 25

WHITE – The Lady Bulldogs improved to 15-4 overall and 8-1 in the DVC after their impressive defensive showcase Tuesday night.

The score was tied 16-16 at halftime, but then De Smet put the clamps on. They gave up three points in the third quarter and six in the fourth, while scoring 23 points in the second halft.

Kennadi Bucholz led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points. Autumn Wilkinson had 14 points and Mackenzie Zell had five. The Dolphins (13-6, 6-3) were led by Autumn Molengraaf who had eight points. Carley Landmark had six points and Baylee Holmlund had four.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will play at Deuel Thursday and the Dolphins will play at Florence/Henry on Friday.

• Flandreau 67, Baltic 34

FLANDREAU – Maria Parsley led the Fliers to their 15th win of the season. She finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals.

Hannah Parsley had 11 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals for the Fliers. Tashara Hardy had 11 points. Sami Polzin led Baltic with 13 points.

The Fliers (15-2) play at Flandreau Indian School on Thursday.

• Arlington 53, Chester Area 28

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals led from the jump and finished the season 11-9 overall. 

Arlington had a 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 27-14 lead into the locker room. They then put the game out of reach when they outscored Chester Area 15-1 in the third quarter.

The Cardinals were led by Hadley Carlson who had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Makayla Nelson had 12 points and seven rebounds. Kasey Pistulka had 10 points and Cecili Carlson had six.

Lexi Siemonsma led the Flyers (4-15) with nine points and four rebounds. Kenna Brown had eight point and four rebounds. Breckyn Ewoldt had four points and four rebounds.
