BROOKINGS – Watertown native Laura Wilde will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in the Performing Arts Center’s Larson Memorial Concert Hall on the South Dakota State University campus.

The concert is part of the Brookings Chamber Music Society Series.

The soprano’s recent engagements include the Lyric Opera of Chicago, where she performed the role of Freia in Wagner’s “Das Rheingold.”

Holding degrees from St. Olaf College and the University of Indiana, Wilde discovered her classical voice while attending the Interlochen Arts Camp as a trumpet player. She began her singing career as a mezzo, but soon transitioned to soprano. Since then, she has performed with the Arizona and Nashville operas, as well as Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.

Wilde will be joined onstage by pianist Craig Terry, who is in his 11th season as assistant conductor at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Terry was the assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera after joining its Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

Wilde currently lives in Chicago where she studies with renowned master teacher Julia Faulkner.

General admission tickets are $20 and student tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased at the SDSU School of Performing Arts by calling 688-5187, or at the Performing Arts Center box office 45 minutes before the concert.

BCMS is a nonprofit organization that presents concerts in the Performing Arts Center in Brookings and is allied with the South Dakota State University School of Performing Arts. The season closes with the Quey Percusssion Duo, April 8.
