BROOKINGS – The Watertown Red Sox swept the Bullets in a youth baseball doubleheader Tuesday evening at Bob Shelden Field, winning 12-3 in six innings and 17-0 in three innings.

BROOKINGS – The Watertown Red Sox swept the Bullets in a youth baseball doubleheader Tuesday evening at Bob Shelden Field, winning 12-3 in six innings and 17-0 in three innings.

Brookings (7-20) competes in a tournament in Sioux Falls beginning Friday.

Game 1

• Watertown 12, Brookings 3 (6 inn.)

The Red Sox pulled away from a 4-3 lead with three runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth.

Watertown’s Evan Falconer went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Six other Red Sox drove in one run. Peyton Johnson added a pair of hits.

Grant Wirkus gave up three runs on six hits and four walks with one strikeout in five innings to earn the win on the mound.

Brookings’ Koby Bartels and Kane Kurtenbach each had a hit and an RBI.

Jacob Vlaminck went 2-for-4. Kolby Weinberg and Caden Wright both doubled, while Tanner Huber singled. Gabriel Wounded Head also drove in a run.

Kurtenbach, the first of five Bullet pitchers, gave up four runs – one earned – on three hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings in the loss.

Game 2

• Watertown 17, Brookings 0 (3 inn.)

The Red Sox totaled 16 hits while scoring three runs in the first inning and seven in both the second and third frames.

Nick Geffre pitched two hitless innings with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. He also went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Jacob Tisher was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Terrence Carroll also finished 3-for-3 with two runs. Mitchell Lloyd contributed two hits and three RBIs. Ben Buri added a pair of runs batted in.

For the Bullets, Cayden Jacobsma and Matthew Girard each drew a walk.

Girard gave up seven runs – six earned – on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings while taking the loss.
