BROOKINGS – Brookings City Manager Jeff Weldon submitted his retirement notice to the mayor and city council this morning.
His retirement is effective June 30.
“After 35 years of public service, 30 of which to five municipalities in two states, (wife) Tracie and I have decided it is time to begin a new adventure in our life’s journey,” Weldon wrote.
He has been city manager for 10 1/2 years, he wrote in the letter.
“This has truly been the best job I have ever had and the highlight of my public service career,” Weldon wrote.
It was announced at the city council meeting on Tuesday that he was celebrating his 60th birthday today.
He said he and his wife plan to move back to Minnesota by the fall to be closer to family, but “South Dakota will always be our second home.”
