Wesley K. Holter, 81, of Brookings, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the Church with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wesley Keith Holter was born Nov. 18, 1937, in Estelline, the son of Adolph and Cecelia (Bergh) Holter.  

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church near Bruce.  He attended school at Eureka No. 57, Augustana Academy, and Bruce High School, graduating in 1956.  He worked 48 years in the trucking industry in management and dispatch. He was united in marriage to Janet Warde on June 6, 1959, in Elbow Lake, Minn. He and Janet had three daughters, Janine, Kristin, and Kara.  

He was proud of his daughters who affectionately called him “Poobah.”  His wife Janet passed away after 53 years of marriage.  On April 6, 2013, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Apland.  He was blessed to welcome Isabelle’s children, Dale and Sarah into his heart. 

Over his lifetime Wesley lived in St. Paul, Lester Prairie and Ashby, Minn. eventually returning “home” to Brookings.  Wes was a proud Norwegian and lifetime Lutheran.  He recognized Jesus as his savior and enjoyed God’s creation, including outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing.

Wesley passed away Friday, March 15, 2019, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 81.

 He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Apland, of Brookings; three daughters, Janine Holter (John Pususta) of Montrose, Minn., Kristin Oppold (Tom) of Prior Lake, Minn., and Kara Hutton (Scott) of Orono, Minn.  He is also survived by stepchildren Dale Apland (Judy) of Bruce and Sarah Tollefson (Chris) of Ft. Mill S.C.  Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren Benjamin Oppold, William Hutton, Kate Oppold, Alana Hutton, Justin Apland (Jesse), Linda Hankel (Chris), Denise Buchholz (Kent), Becca Apland (Reed Johnson), Collyn Tollefson, Carena Tollefson and nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Anitra Holter; siblings Dale Holter (Joanne), Adelpha Reppe (Leland), Myron Holter (Sally), and Julie Anderson (John).  He also is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.Wes was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Holter, parents Adolph and Cecelia Holter, and brother Ronald Holter.
