CLEVELAND — South Dakota State University wide receiver Jake Wieneke was one of 49 student-athletes named Friday to the 20th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.

A senior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, Wieneke earned a spot on the honor squad for the second year in a row with a 3.62 grade-point average as a physical education/teacher education major. The FCS ADA award is the latest honor for Wieneke, who was a 2017 Campbell Trophy finalist and a two-time selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team. In addition, he was honored on the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and is slated to receive the STATS FCS Doris Robinson Award as the subdivision's top student-athlete Friday night in Frisco, Texas.

On the field, Wieneke completed his career second in FCS history with 59 receiving touchdowns and third all-time with 5,157 receiving yards, while setting an FCS record with a reception in 53 consecutive games. An All-America honoree each of his four seasons, Wieneke has been selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game Jan. 20 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for the FCS ADA award. Each of the nominees was required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
