Wiese, Benning win in Volga

VOLGA – The Flandreau girls and Clark/Willow Lake boys won team titles at the Sioux Valley Cross Country Invite on Tuesday at Meadow Creek.

Girls

The Fliers totaled 26 team points.

Great Plains Lutheran (57) was second and De Smet (60) third. The hosts were fifth at 73.

Flandreau’s Faith Wiese was medalist in the 5K in 19 minutes, 37.14 seconds.

Great Plains Lutheran’s Halle Bauer was runner-up in 19:44.94.

Madison’s Jessie Tappe (20:44.85), Webster Area’s Rana Hegg (20:59.43) and Flandreau’s Libby Hursey (21:04.28) rounded out the top five.

Isabelle Bloker paced the Cossacks with a 21:10.17 clocking, putting her in sixth.

Lily Klein (21:20.25) was seventh and Josie Hamilton (21:50.27) 13th to complete the Fliers’ team tally.

Boys

The Cyclones had 32 team points, with Madison (51) taking second and Flandreau (60) third.

Estelline/Hendricks’ Riley Benning posted a time of 17:08.53 to take the 5K crown.

Sioux Valley’s Colby Gatzke ended up second in 17:51.85.

CWL’s Tyler O’Neill (17:58.82) and Brady Jordan (18:02.62) and Webster Area’s Drew Reetz (18:04.47) rounded out the top five.

Flandreau’s Austin Kulm (18:06.55) was sixth and Lake Preston’s Rhett McMasters (18:21.58) seventh.
