Wildcat, Monarch rematch for B crown

SIOUX FALLS – Top-seeded Northwestern (37-2) gets another shot at No. 2 seed Warner (35-2) in today’s Class B title game as the Wildcats beat Faith in straight sets and the Monarchs downed Chester Area in four in Friday’s semifinal action at the State Volleyball Tournament at the PREMIER Center.

Warner beat Northwestern in five sets at home on Sept. 6.

The championship match starts at 4 p.m. while the Lady Longhorns and Flyers face off at 12:30 p.m. for third place.

 Warner 3, Chester Area 1

The Monarchs won the first set, 25-20; Chester Area won Set 2, 25-23; but then Warner closed the match, 25-21 and 25-23, to advance to the championship.

Laurie Rogers (26) and Ashley Fischbach (19) combined for 45 of the Monarchs’ 61 kills while Sydney Leidholt and Danille Seymour both finished with eight kills apiece as Peyton Fisher notched 54 set assists.

Laura Ochsner collected 42 digs.

Jadon Wages had 19 kills to lead the Flyers as Hailey Ewoldt tallied 42 set assists and Hanna Reiff finished with 49 digs. Makenna Larson added nine kills and 19 digs while Ella Pry added seven kills and six block assists.

 Northwestern 3, Faith 0

The Wildcats won 25-16, 25-18, 25-22.

Riley Grandpre finished with 15 kills and a solo block. Caitlyn Fischbach added 12 kills.

Sydney Schell contributed nine kills and a pair of aces.

Madalyn Groft totaled 35 set assists, seven kills, four aces and 14 digs. Tya Weideman chipped in with 14 digs and two aces.

The Lady Longhorns’ Mikenzy Miller had nine kills, two aces and a solo block. Sydnie Schauer notched 20 set assists and nine digs.

Consolation semifinals

 Faulkton Area 3, Kimball/White Lake 1

The Trojans prevailed by the set scores of 25-19, 17-25, 25-22 and 25-22.

Faulkton’s Peyton Melius racked up 24 kills, three aces and 13 digs. Taylor Kramer added 13 kills, 1 1/2 blocks, an ace and 15 digs. Brooke Niederbaumer had eight kills, three blocks (two solo), an ace and 12 digs.

The WiLdKats’ Grace Konechne notched 16 kills, an ace, a block and 26 digs. Kennedy Leiferman added 12 kills, two aces, a solo block and 14 digs. Heather Munsen dished out 39 set assists and Darby Deffenbaugh came up with 27 digs.

 Burke 3, Ethan 1

The Lady Cougars dropped the Rustlers 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23.

Burke’s Lahna Matucha totaled 17 kills and three aces. Taylee Indahl had 18 kills and 14 digs.

Lainee Schonebaum notched 26 digs and Bobbi Jo 20 to go with 32 set assists.

Ethan’s Cameryn Logan finished with 16 kills, three blocks (two solo) and an ace.

Jada Plastow had 13 kills, 2 1/2 blocks (two solo), an ace and 22 digs.

Maddie Miller came up with 24 digs.
