Wildcats, Knights win Region 1B

WEBSTER – The Northwestern boys and Aberdeen Christian girls won the Region 1B cross country meets on Wednesday.


The Wildcats won the event with 16 points. Estelline/Hendricks came in second (24) and Frederick Area came in third (27). Tri-State finished in fourth (39) and Aberdeen Christian came in fifth (65). Deubrook Area came in eighth (74).

Cody Larson of Warner won the individual race with a time of 16 minutes and 58.2 seconds. Estelline/Hendricks’ Riley Benning came in second (18:15.04) and Daniel Ayoroa of JVC finished in third (18:36.35). Northwestern’s Justin Haven came in fourth (18:36.62) and Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State rounded out the top five (18:38.98).

Mattix Hausman and Justin Buschenfeld finished 13th (19:41.99) and 14th (19:48.02) for Estelline/Hendricks. Camden Hobbs came in 17th (19:58.84) and Dawson Bury finished in 29th (21:30.45) for the Redhawks.

Colton Trooien was the top finisher for Deubrook Area and he came in 27th (21:02.68). Jaxon Quail was right behind Trooien, finishing in 28th (21:10.57) for the Dolphins. JP Rogness came in 31st (21:44.45) and Austin Olsen was the final finisher for Deubrook and came in 45th (26:20.82).


The Knights won the event with 24 points. Great Plains Lutheran came in second (26) and Estelline/Hendricks finished in third (30). James Valley Christian finished in fourth (34) and Deubrook rounded out the top five (47).

Madison Zirberl of Dakota Hills was the top individual finisher (20:12.37). Ellie Olsen of Deubrook came in second (20:34.82) and Great Plans’ Halle Bauer finished in third (20:36.82). Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern came in fourth (21:36.23) and Aberdeen Christian’s Hailey Moeller finished in fifth (21:39.19).

Jasade Siverson was the top finisher for Estelline/Hendricks and she came in eighth (21:55.97). Saide Johnson came in 12th (22:09.73) and Kaylee Johnson came in 15th (22:38.27). Claire Dagel rounded things out for the Redhawks and she finished in 22nd (24:07.65).

Carley Landmark came in 25th (24:31.63) and Brynlee Hansen came in 28th (25:20.57) for Deubrook. Joeve Krier was the final finisher for the Dolphins and she came in 37th (27:14.79).
