William ‘Bill’ Sheffield, 86, of Brookings, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 William Sheffield was born on Oct. 24, 1932, in Armour, the son of William and Dena (VanDerheiden) Sheffield.

 Bill received his education in rural school in Charles Mix County, South Dakota. He farmed near Mt. Vernon and Plankinton. He was united in marriage to Norma Furness on Sept. 2, 1961, in Clear Lake. They continued farming near Plankinton until 1971, when they moved to a farm near White. They retired from farming in 2004 and moved into Brookings.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings, and the American Legion Higgens-Jessen Post #88 of White. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, farming and especially spending time with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his two children, Dawnzetta Francis (Dan) of Sioux Falls, and Mark Sheffield (Christine) of White; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Sheffield (Wanda) of Madison, Robert Sheffield (Laurie) of Highmore; one sister, Clara McIver (Walt) of Cheney, KS, three sisters-in-law, Juanita Sheffield of Platte, Linda Sheffield, of Belvidere, IL and Marliss Sheffield, of Mitchell  and many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; one son, William Jr. and four brothers John, Fred, Don and Ed; one sister, Bonnie Sheffield.
