William Reginald Lufkins, 71, of Brookings, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, in Orlando, Florida while on vacation.

Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings with burial of his cremated remains in the Sisseton Cemetery in Sisseton.

William was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Sisseton.  Bill attended school in Sisseton and lived with his family until moving to Watertown in 1983.  In 1984, he moved to Redfield, where he lived until 1985.  At that time, he moved to Brookings and lived at Advance.

Bill enjoyed traveling and exploring different places across the U.S. and was somewhat of a vacationing “foodie,” enjoying the local flavors of his destination. In addition to his many travels, he was passionate about his painting, creating beautiful abstract art and holding several art shows over the years. Bill enjoyed attending social events, being with his friends, displaying his art and telling people about his vacations. Bill loved all of the holidays, especially the ones that had large family gatherings where he could share his stories and advice to the children.

Of special importance to him was the advice that centered around listening to your parents and being nice to your mom, which was often a reflection on the memories he held so dear to him about his own mother.

He will always be remembered as a gentle and loving person with a big heart and his kindness poured out to all those he met.

Survivors include his brother, Carl Lufkins; sister, Ione Lufkins, both of Sisseton; guardian, Michael Twedt and his family of Brookings; his Advance family; and many friends in the Brookings and Sisseton areas.
