Wings beat Blizzard 6-1

BROOKINGS – The Aberdeen Wings beat the Blizzard 6-1 in an NAHL Central Division game Friday night at Larson Ice Center.

Nic Sicoly, Stepan Pokorny and John Sladic scored first-period goals. Pokorny lit the lamp early in the second to make it 4-0.

Brookings got on the board via Shane Hathaway’s goal at the 13:17 mark of the second. Brock Draeger and Johnny Johnson assisted.

Aberdeen’s Shawn Kennedy scored late in the second and again early in the third to provide for the final margin.

Matt Vernon made 20 saves to earn the win. Brookings starter Jack Caruso stopped eight shots and allowed three goals, and was pulled after a period. George McBey had 20 saves over the final 40 minutes.

The Blizzard (2-10-1-1, 6 points) and Wings (10-2-1-1, 22 points) face off again tonight at 7:15 in Aberdeen.
