BROOKINGS – Dalton Weigel’s short-handed tally late in the second period sparked the Aberdeen Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Blizzard during NAHL Central Division action Tuesday night at Larson Ice Center.
The goal – assisted by Thomas Rocco and Nic Sicoly – knotted the score at 1-all with 31 seconds to go in the period.
Shawn Kennedy netted the game-winner off assists from Connor Beatty and Max Salpeter with 4:39 remaining in the game.
Matt Vernon made 30 saves to earn the win in goal for the Wings (16-5-1-1, 34 points).
Brookings’ Vince Marino lit the lamp on a power play 4 1/2 minutes into the second. John Kaljian and Brendan Aird were credited with assists.
George McBey stopped 24 shots in the loss.
The Blizzard (3-20-1-1, 8 points) are host to the Austin Bruins on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
