BROOKINGS – An Elkton woman was arrested after she allegedly broke into a man’s residence and assaulted another female, according to the Brookings Police.
The incident was reported at 11:10 p.m. Monday and occurred in the 500 block of 12th Street South, Lt. Marci Gebers said.
The 33-year-old woman, who was known to both the man and the other female, “had attempted to gain entry and physically assaulted a female who was inside the residence there by pulling her hair and punching her,” Gebers said.
The female who had her hair pulled and was punched had minor injuries; no ambulance was called and no medical attention was needed, Gebers said, adding there was no damage to the residence.
The woman was arrested for simple assault. She had an outstanding warrant out of Lake County for failure to appear.
“Then, she was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, so she was charged with those offenses, as well,” Gebers said.
The woman was transferred to the Brookings County Detention Center.
“Generally, they’ll have to answer to their current charges here in Brookings County, and then she may be transferred to Lake County,” Gebers explained.
The fresh snowfall contributed to some fender-benders in Brookings Wednesday morning, Gebers added.
“There were actually three of them that were reported this morning from 7:50-8:18,” she said, adding that none were injury accidents.
