BROOKINGS – Officers were called to handle an aggressive woman and found she had outstanding warrants, so they arrested her, said Lt. Derrick Powers of the Brookings Police.
The call shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday from a residence in the 800 block of Onaka Trail was regarding a woman, 37, of Brookings, who was threatening another woman in the residence and “acting in a menacing way toward the female and she was refusing to leave the residence,” Powers said. The woman had been drinking.
When officers arrived and identified the woman, they found she had two outstanding warrants. One was out of Minnehaha County for larceny, the other was out of Brookings County for failure to appear regarding a child support matter, Powers said.
Even after officers arrived, the woman contin- ued to refuse to leave the residence.
“When officers attempted to take her into custody, she resisted them. After a brief struggle with the female, they were able to handcuff her and she continued to resist as she was being escorted out of the
residence,” Powers said. “She was kicking at officers, too, while she was resisting them.”
She was taken to the Brookings County Detention Center.
The charges are simple assault for threatening and
menacing behavior toward the other woman, resisting arrest, obstructing, and failure to vacate after notice, as she wouldn’t leave when she was told to do so, Powers said.
