BROOKINGS – The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Leadership & Learning (WILL) Committee will start hosting events, beginning with Ritu Hooda: Negotiate Better, Live Better, on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Swiftel Center sponsored by Best Choice Real Estate.

The luncheon will mark the WILL Committee’s first leadership luncheon since February 2020. The committee has plans for a second event taking place Nov. 3, a half-day summit entitled, “Activate Your Inner Wonder Woman [no cape required],” facilitated by national speaker Kelly Radi.

“The two upcoming events will provide such great learning and networking opportunities for our local women in leadership roles, as well as those aspiring to grow both personally and professionally. We love that we are able to offer respected speakers of both local and national stature," Robyn Jensen, chair of the WILL Committee, said.

Hooda, a business intelligence architect at First Bank & Trust, will be presenting on Sept. 15, on the topic of negotiation – but not the type of negotiating you might typically think of. Hooda believes women are great at negotiating for others – but that women need to learn the importance of negotiating for themselves.

Hooda believes that power comes from within once we realize our self worth. Hooda will share everyday examples from her personal and professional life, which will be great takeaways. We all have the power to make an impact every day by negotiating what matters to us. Hooda challenges the audience to reexamine and then take action by taking consistent baby steps towards being a daring negotiator.

“It’s been 569 days since the last WILL luncheon – not that we’re counting or anything. We are very excited to gather and learn together with our members once again,” said Kelsey Doom, president and CEO of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce.
